The Inner Child

Your inner child represents and speaks to you of desires, pure emotions and unmet needs.

The concept of the inner child comes from Transactional Analysis, a type of therapy that I find overlaps really well with Gestalt.

It’s part of a traid: the inner child, the inner parent, and the adult. I’ve written about each separately as well as together.

Just as Julia Cameron wrote of anger in her book The Artist’s Way, I find this too is true of the inner child: it is not a master - it’s a tool.

This means that your inner child doesn’t always get their way, but your inner child does need to be listened to, acknowledged and cared for.
